My name is Felix Wagoner.docx. I am a corporal officer of the German army. I am leader of the artillery and am stationed behind the front line. Our platoon has been ordered to bombard any who stand between our army and Paris. The travel is going very well. We have just fought the BEF in the Battle of Mons and we are now entering France and plan to begin our assault on Paris from the north. I am positive that the The Schlieffen Plan.docxwill work and we will be successful, since the British will not bring many troops and the Russians are too far behind us in stature to matter. The Franco-Prussian Warproved that we can easily defeat the French. Germany will finally have achieved its true position in the modern world when we have defeated all of the other European powers.
Our nation was engaged in war when Kaiser William II promised German support for Austria-Hungary against Serbia. The triple alliance brought us into the war. We honored our alliance by coming to the Austro-Hungarian's side even though everyone knows that they could have easily destroyed the Serbs without our help. The real reason we joined the war is because we needed to demonstrate Germany’s destructive force. War with Serbia is what we need to obtain this show of power.
War with Serbia is not only necessary to gain our position as the strongest country in the world, but to get back at those Slavs for killing the Archduke of Austria-Hungary. The murder of him by the Black Hand was an outrage. The Archduke would have reformed the unrighteous government and would have made that sad little country a decent one.
Our Regiment has just been issued with new orders, to flock back to Germany and defend East Prussia from invading Russians. What we will do is travel by train through Germany and swiftly destroy the Russians so that we may return to fight the British and French on the Western Front. We managed this task very well. The Battle of Tannenburg is what our most glorious victory has been named.
In our travels through Germany, I saw many Propagandaposters such as this one in large cities like Berlin.
Now that we have successfully defended the Germany from invaders in the East. Now, we shall fend off all who come from the West. The French and British's lines are wavering; with our division going to aid our fellow men in the trenches, we will finally bolster our numbers into the millions and capture France.
Our success in destroying the Russians in the East will benefit us in the war by a little. We could have given the Russian's a severe beating any time, any place, so really it gives us only a minor advantage because they weren't much of a threat.
On the first Christmas of World War 1, many were disappointed that they weren't home. All of the soldiers, including myself, wished to see their families before New Year; they still had hopes for a short war. The second year however, all that the others wanted was warmth. The trenches are very cold and are covered with snow and ice. It was very difficult to find warmth. Three years into the war, most men's wishes are for the war to be over. The fourth winter was the worst. No one had much warm clothing and many had lost all hope of ever returning home. I will be very thankful if there won't be another Christmas that we must endure in the trenches. End of the War
Germany has called for an Armistice. It looks like we'll be able to go home. I don't think anyone could have kept up much longer- on both sides. When the Americans came into the war, the battles began to take different directions. I do believe though, that if the Americans had not joined the war, we would have won in about 6 more weeks. At this time, the British would have been starved, the French would be exhausted, and we would have had victory.
We have returned home to Germany. The fighting is over; the peace is made. Although Germany is in great debt and its army has been decommitioned, we shall recover. The Kaiser is in exile and the army is being trained 100,000 at a time. The economy will be slow until we can get resources but Germany will recover. The war is settled for now, but I think that another war will follow when we are strong again. This is because nothing was accomplished by any country. The peace we treatied for might last another 30 years. But other than that, the people were happy to see us. They were like us; they didn't feel defeated.
